10. Promoting Your Site One Web Page at a Time
Why One Web Page At a Time? Your website probably represents a number of sections, or pages, not
just one page. You just never know which
Which Pages Should I Promote First? Your main pages should be first in promotions. Some of your main pages may be your: -- homepage
These pages should be first and foremost in promotions because these
are the pages that will most likely keep the interest of your visitors
and/or bring sales results. But, you don't want to leave the other pages
out of the picture entirely. Visitors coming to ANY page of your
How To Promote Your Web Pages Below I've list several of the most effective ways to promote your web
pages. Do the following with each
1. Personalized MetaTags for Each Web Page Each time you create a new web page for your site, be sure to insert
metatags (keywords, title, and description) for each individual page. Customize
your metatags for the page you're working on. For example, if you're creating
a web page for web
"web design articles, web development articles, web
Inserting metatags is very critical for the next two steps you're about to take with the search engines. 2. List Each Web "Page" With the Free Search Engines This is a simple and free task that can turn into giant traffic for you. The free search engines are still the number one way most surfers find websites. By listing each of your web pages with the free search engines, you'll highly increase your website listing placement. A great place to get started with submissions is Scrub the Web. They offer a free submission system that allows to you to submit your site to most of the major search engines for free - and from one place. Go to: http://www.scrubtheweb.com/ to submit your web pages. Another place to get started is AAAPages.com. They offer submission to over 6,000 search engines at very affordable rates. Go here for information about their submission plan: http://www.aaapages.com/engines.html 3. Paid Search Engines Next, begin building accounts with some paid search engines. Goto.com and FindWhat.com have been the two most effective for me, so you can start with these. The paid search engines are a great way to bring targeted visitors to your website, and for as little as a penny each. Proven to work! To get started with Goto.com and FindWhat.com go to the addresses below:

You're able to choose the ezines
Each time you build a new page or "section" on your site, place an ad directly to your new page in a related ezine. Go to the page and find something "free" and useful (potential visitors need a reason to visit your page). For example, if you've just completed a web design articles section,
your ad may read:

11. Question of the Week: Where are your predictions?
Jeff Writes: "Hi Jason! #9 was great, I didn't realize you were doing questions of the week, but since you are, I think I have a good one for you! I subscribe to a lot of these ezines, and a lot of the editors are making predictions for 2001. However your first issue rolled by, and I didn't see any from you. Are you going to make any? I'd like to hear what you think will happen this year. Let me know if I make your newsletter! Jeff P." Well Jeff, I wasn't planning on making predictions for the simple fact that a lot of newsletters and even websites already do, and I hate doing anything that's overdone. However my arm has been twisted, and I have been put on the spot; I will of course not disappoint my readers :). But I'm not Dion Warwick, and this is no psychic hotline, therefore I think I'll just call this section: "Jason's Erudite Speculations" Jason's Erudite Speculations for 2001 Speculation #1: Many of the large websites that have gone belly up, such as etoys, will be gobbled by old economy businesses such as Toys R Us. These old economy businesses will take on the traffic, some of the staff, and all of the know-how from these attempted new economy businesses to make it finally work. Consumers will feel more comfortable buying online from somewhere they can make physical product returns. These old economy businesses will benefit from the past few years of development of web commerce. Speculation #2: A second technology boom will occur late in the year as a direct result of speculation 1. These new Internet powers will be much more conservative with their advertising dollars. They will learn from the mistakes of the companies that they acquired, but will still spend heavy dollars on the web. Speculation #3: George Lucas will remember that movies are more then just light and sound, and put greater character development into Star Wars Episode II then he did in Episode I. Speculation #4: At least one of the major search engines that currently offer free listings will switch to the "Goto.com" paid listing method. Speculation #5: "O Town" from "Making the Band" won't last through the year! ============================================================
12. A Stone, Alone: Part VIII - A Path Once Traveled
**This week we continue our saga with Part VII of our webmaster Stone's storyline "A Stone, Alone"** Stone begins to travel the path back to his oracle that the wizard has built. Stone is amazed to see how busy the new path is. It was only just made moments ago, yet it is flooded with travelers from the wizard's oracle to his own. It seems as though the wizard has done just what he said he would. Pleased with his arrangement Stone heads off to bed. Having labored for many hours without rest, Stone falls into a deep sleep. Stone snores on for hours. The hours become a day, and soon the day becomes a week. When Stone finally awakens, he finds that the new path to his oracle seems to have "dried up". The travelers that had once followed his path from the Gemini Oracle, are no longer arriving in the vast numbers that they once had. Shocked by this situation, Stone follows the still busy path which leads from his oracles gate towards the Gemini Oracle to see why the travelers to his oracle have diminished so greatly. When Stone finally arrives at the old wizard's oracle, he finds something unbelievable! *End Part VIII*
